Japanese WW2 Yamato mystery?

This came from Bangkok recently. It’s intriguing. It’s been around a lot longer than COVID-19!

Can anyone throw any light on it for Stan?

Hi Judy.......yes.......the problem is here too and we have been under quarantine now for 4 weeks. We have another month to go. Thailand is locked down severely but we dont have any problem with supplies or food. So......guess we will stay put and hope for the best.

I found this "art" about 3 weeks ago in a small junk shop in town. I didnt recognize the ship but had a WW 2 historian (nut) friend of mine take a look. He recognized it immediately as the Yamato (or its sister ship that also sank). The piece is 32" X 11" and is semi-professionally done. It looks more arts and crafts but the guy must have been pretty good at the welder because welding aluminum (I assume that is the metal here) is not easy. Interested to know what you think about this. Sending you a photo of the back of it too. There are two pegs that look like they were part of the original backing plate and not welded on later. It would be impossible to hang up so really dont know what the pegs would be used for unless they were part a floor. Thanks
Stan
